George L. and Mary E. Stearns papers [microform], 1856-1901.

George Stearns, a free-soiler, raised money to equip Kansas free-state forces with Sharps rifles. He was president of the Massachusetts State Kansas Committee in 1856 and chairman of the Kansas Relief Committee in 1860-1861. Mary Stearns' papers pertain mainly to a bust of John Brown that she commissioned sculptor Edward A. Brackett to execute.
